Papilio Peranthus
Bali's Emerald Butterfly Jewel
Deep within the lush Ubud jungle, a flash of iridescent green catches the eye. This is the Papilio Peranthus, a magnificent butterfly also known as the Indonesian Swallowtail or Sea Green Swallowtail. Endemic to Indonesia, this large, velvety-black butterfly is famed for the metallic, jewel-toned scales that shimmer across its wings.
In Bali, the presence of these graceful creatures is more than just a beautiful sight; it is a living indicator of a thriving, healthy ecosystem. The Papilio Peranthus is drawn to our organic garden because its caterpillars feed exclusively on plants from the citrus (Rutaceae) family.
Our commitment to farm-to-table dining means our gardens are rich with the very lemon, pomelo, and lime-berry trees these butterflies need to flourish. Witnessing them flutter between citrus leaves and nectar-filled flowers is a serene reminder of the delicate balance of nature we strive to protect. It’s a quiet moment of connection, found only where the jungle is truly alive.
