Leptosia Nina
The Delicate Psyche Butterfly
Fluttering gently through the sunlit clearings of the Ubud jungle like a drifting petal is the Psyche (Leptosia nina). This small, delicate butterfly is predominantly white, with distinctive black markings on the tips of its forewings and sometimes a faint greenish or yellowish wash on the underside of its hindwings.
What truly sets the Psyche apart is its unique flight pattern. It flies slowly, weakly, and close to the ground, often seeming to bob up and down amongst low-growing vegetation. This unhurried movement makes it easy to observe and adds to the serene atmosphere of our natural surroundings.
The Psyche thrives where its specific host plants grow. Its caterpillars feed on plants from the Capparaceae family, such as Cleome species, which can be found in disturbed areas and along the edges of our organic garden. Spotting this gentle butterfly is a reminder of the quiet, understated beauty present in the intricate ecosystem of Sanggraloka Ubud, adding a touch of delicate charm to the landscape.
