Idea Stolli
The Common Tree Nymph Butterfly
Floating effortlessly through the Ubud jungle canopy, the Common Tree Nymph (Idea stolli) is a truly magical sight. Often called the "Paper Kite" or "Rice Paper" butterfly, its large, semi-transparent wings are a pale, silvery white, patterned with black veins and delicate black spots. With a wingspan up to 15cm, its presence is unmistakable.
The most enchanting thing about the Common Tree Nymph is its flight. It has a slow, gentle, and unhurried wingbeat, gliding through the air like a piece of paper caught in a breeze. This slow flight is a sign of confidence, as the butterfly is unpalatable to predators.
This graceful species thrives in our jungle sanctuary because its caterpillars feed on climbing plants like Aganosma. By preserving the wild, organic nature of our resort's gardens, we protect the host plants that this beautiful butterfly needs to survive. Spotting one drifting past your villa is a peaceful reminder of the delicate, interconnected web of life we are a part of.
